Crazy Weather…Confused Bass

Last weekend I was at Lake Shasta for the Wild West Bass Trail WWBT tournament. We came up .23 of a pound short of a check. Our weight was 12.77 and 13.0 was the last check at 39th place in a 195 team tournament. Lake Shasta is a beautiful lake with some awesome fishing. After the tourney my partner and I decided to stay another day and we sacked the spotted bass yesterday. We had 17+ pounds which is what it took to win the day before. Our best fish was a 4.9 pound spot. I guess that’s fishing! Now back at Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa for some big fish. Hopefully the crazy weather hasn’t shut down the bite here!

Wild West Bass Trail at Lake Shasta

Even though the bite is on at Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa I’m gearing up to go the Lake Shasta for the WWBT tournament. The lake goes off limits Monday so I’m going to take a couple trips up to see if I can find some big spotted bass. With all the great weather we have had there could be a swimbait bite up there. So for now it’s good bye Lake county and hello Shasta county.

Wild West Bass Trail at Shasta

As bad as I hate to leave Lake and Napa counties, it’s time to head to Lake Shasta for the WWBT pro/am tournament. I am looking forward to that tourney though as it have done well there the last couple years. This year I’m going to add the floating fly to my arsenal. Past years my top techinics have been senkos, tubes, swimbaits, and the A-rig. After that it’s back to Clear Lake to prepare to the Leukemia fundraiser tournament along with a couple trips to Lake Berryessa. The 2018 season is underway…

Clear Lake vs Lake Shasta

Well Lake Shasta is officially off limits to all competitors in the WWBT pro/am next weekend. Looking forward to fishing that tournament again this year. As far as Clear Lake there are some good bass and crappie being caught. The water is starting to stabilize and clear so the fishing is only going to get better. Wether you are looking to catch a huge limit of crappie or the bass of a lifetime now is the time to head to Clear Lake. As far as Lake Bwrryessa goes it is filling fast and the fish are eating. Call me and let’s do it!!!

WWBT at Lake Oroville

Yesterday was the first Wild West team tournament of the year and the rising water made it tough for a lot of the fishermen. My partner and I caught about 20 keeper bass with the best 7 (7 fish limit with WWBT) weighing 12.38 which was good enough for 8th place. Not bad in a 167 boat field. Congrats to Kris Sisto and Tim Rhyme with the winning sack weighing 14.70 pounds and Zack Thompson with the big fish of 4.93. Now it’s time to focus on Clear Lake. The stable weather and clearing water should get the big bass biting here so if your ready for some late winter, early spring bass busting hit me up!
