The Bite is on at Clear Lake

That’s right Clear Lake is kicking out lots of bass with some big ones in the mix. The crappie bite is still good here also. It took 29 pounds to win the fund raiser tournament last weekend and 17 pounds to get a check in a 50 boat field. Fish were caught on everything from drops shotting to A-rigs to big swim baits. Lake Berryessa is turning on also. Yesterday in the Berryessa Bass Trail it took 24 pounds to win and there was a 9 pound pig caught. If you interested in some great early spring fishing give me a call.

Clear Lake is Heating Up

American Bass Association (ABA) held it’s third tournament this weekend and the bite is really good for this time of the year. The winners had 29+ pounds and it took almost 25 pounds to get a check. There were two fish caught over 9 pounds and two more over 8. My partner and I had 23.45 pounds with no big fish, only 4.5 to 5 pounders. Most of the fish were caught on lipless crank baits and swim baits. We also caught a couple on chatters baits. I’ll be back out tomorrow looking for a giant bass! If you are ready for some great bass fishing now is the time to do it, especially with the weather that we are have for the next couple weeks! Give me a call and let’s go catch some big ones!

Big Bass are Moving Shallow

The nice weather is warming the water and the bass are starting to move to the shore. Clear Lake is 2 feet higher than last year and there will be some good spawning areas this year that were dry last year. This week I had 2 guide trips and both were awesome. Both trips had fish caught up to 7 pounds plus a 16 pound catfish and. 2.8 pound crappie. We caught fish on Lucky Craft LV500, Jackel Squadminnow, Senkos, drop shot, swim baits and minnows. I got a chance to go out alone once and caught a 9.1, a 8 and a 6.5 pound bass. Two were caught on glide baits and one came on a Senko. Now is the time to call and schedule your trip while there are still a few days left this spring.

The Bite is on at Clear Lake

The past week has been really good on Clear Lake. Saturday my partner and I had 35+ pounds for our five best bass with a total of somewhere around 30 fish caught. Most of those fish were caught on a rip bait. Sunday in the tournament we only had 25 pounds and need 35 to win. That day our rip bite didn’t work so we had to change plans and go to other baits. Our best fish was 8.15 pounds and was caught on a swim bait. I had two guide trips this week and both resulted in great catches of up to 30 fish each day. The best fish of the two trips was caught by Franz and weighed 8 pounds. Most of those bass were caught on shallow crank baits, rip baits and live minnows. I fished alone on Wednesday and it was super foggy in the morning and the bite was slow, but after noon the fog cleared and the fishing was awesome. I caught several fish up to 6 pounds with Luckycraft LV 500, Stacyee, and ended the day with a 9.85 pond largemouth. Obviously the bite is getting better so if you are ready for some early spring action on Clear Lake or Lake Berryessa give me a call.

Rising Water

After the 5 inches of rain Clearlake has risin about 2.5 feet. That not what we need but it is a great start. It is raining again and the forecast calls for possibly another 2 inches of rain over the next couple days. That could bring the lake up another 6 to 12 inches. As far as the bite, I haven’t fishing Clearlake since the rain and have heard any reports. I did fish Berryessa Saturday and Sunday. We had a Berryessa Bass Tournament there and we took second place with 17.91 pounds. The first place had 18.10 and edges us out by less than a quarter of a pound. We caught fish there on the A rig, Lucky Craft LV, Senko, and the Huddleston swim bait. The biggest fish came on the Hudd and weighed 7.5 pounds.

High Winds, Rain, and Sleet…and Big Bass!

The weather on Wednesday could not have been worse. We had extreme high winds, rain and sleet but the bass didn’t seen to mind. My client, Ryan managed to catch about 12 bass up to 6 pounds. All of the fish were caught on the Alabama Rig. We also threw swim baits and chatter baits, and I caught one fish on the chatter bait. At the end of the day Ryan was please with the results as he caught his two best bass ever, a 5 pounder and a 6 pounder. Ryan had to leave early to head back to the air port and I guess I just hadn’t had enough punishment for the day. I went back out and fished until dark and caught another dozen or so bass, but nothing over 6 pounds. I did manage to catch a few with the Senko and an Osprey swim bait. But the A-Rig was still the first choice of the bass. If you’re ready for some of this call Clear Lake’s best bass guide (that’s me)!
