High North Wind Slow Clear Lake Bite

We have had supper high winds at Clear Lake this week and the bass here don’t like cold north wind! Even with the wind Clear Lake is still better than most. I had clients catch fish up to 9 pounds and I caught a 9.5 pounder. They are still eating rip and jerk baits, Lucky Craft LV500 and other lipless crank baits, Little Creepers Trash Fish and other swim baits including glide baits. Lake Berryessa is also kicking out some giant bass like the 14 pounder caught by a team in the American Bass Ass. tournament Saturday. Back at Clear Lake the water temp is climbing to 65 in the day so the bite will change from prespawn to spawning bass really soon. So if you like looking at bed fish get ready it almost here!

Clear Lake is on Fire

What a great weekend!!! Saturday, Konocti Vista Casino hosted the 3rd Wild West Bass Trail tournament of the season at Clear Lake. My partner and I finished second with 40.19 pounds. We had a 11.54 pound kicker plus a 10.05 pound toad!!! We caught fish on the A-Rig, Lucky Craft LV500, And a couple different rip baits. The biggest bass came on a rip bait. Lake Berryessa was a little tougher Sunday but we managed to put together 17.5 pounds. The fish there came on spinner baits, chatter baits, and shallow crank baits. At Clear Lake the fish will be moving onto their beds really soon but we still have a small window to catch these giant bass while they are in the prespawn stage. This week and next are booked so if you want to get on some of Clear Lake’s best fishing give me a call!!

Hawgs(big bass) are Brawling at Clear Lake

I haven’t been out in the last two days but a couple of friends have sent me pictures of their catch and it looks like I missed a couple great days on the water. I saw pictures of a 43 pound 5 bass sack and a 38 pounds sack. Mean while I just got a German short hair pointer so I have been on puppy duty! Tomorrow I’m taking Remington(my pup) to Lake Berryessa to get ready for the 4th Berryessa Bass Trail tournament which is Sunday 2/21. The bite on Clear Lake is still good with Lucky Craft LV500 lipless crank baits, Pointer 128 rip baits, and A-Rig. Also some fish are starting to eat jigs and swimbaits. Next week the weather is going to be awesome again so if you are itching to get on some of the best bass of the year give me a call and let’s do it!

Clear Lake is Turning On

Well it’s about time…Clear Lake is bringing to put out a few fish. I had two trips last week and both were successful. On Friday my clients manage to catch a dozen bass up to 6 pounds. The better fish were caught on the Lucky Craft LV500. They also caught fish on a BDS3 which is a square bill crank bait.
Well if you’re like me you are getting the itch so give me a call and let’s book your trip.

Rising Water

After the 5 inches of rain Clearlake has risin about 2.5 feet. That not what we need but it is a great start. It is raining again and the forecast calls for possibly another 2 inches of rain over the next couple days. That could bring the lake up another 6 to 12 inches. As far as the bite, I haven’t fishing Clearlake since the rain and have heard any reports. I did fish Berryessa Saturday and Sunday. We had a Berryessa Bass Tournament there and we took second place with 17.91 pounds. The first place had 18.10 and edges us out by less than a quarter of a pound. We caught fish there on the A rig, Lucky Craft LV, Senko, and the Huddleston swim bait. The biggest fish came on the Hudd and weighed 7.5 pounds.

Clear Lake Chamber Bass Tournament

Congrats to Mike Krnaich (BMX) and Brian Bailey on their win with 60.76 pounds of bass for 2 days. It was another slug feast with the top 11 teams all having over 50 pounds each for the 2 days. As you can see the fishing here is still great. Big swim baits and crank baits and lipless crank baits (Lucky Craft LV 500) seem to be the ticket at this time. If you want to get in on some of this awesome Spring time bass fishing at Clear Lake call me, Carl at Clear Lake Bass Guide to plan your trip of a life time. Of course as soon as Spring is over there’s top water season….

LVs for me

Lots of fisherman are saying they are catching fish on Alabama Rigs. For me the Lucky Craft LV 500 is still the best bet hands down. Today I fished for about 6 hours and spent the day throwing the A-Rig and the LV about the same amount of time. I caught 2 fish on the rig and 12 on the LV. Also caught a couple on a Senko. The bass were in water from 6 to 12 feet or 20 to 30 feet. Nothing from 12 to 20. Most of the fish were from 4 to 5 pounds with 2 that were close to 6 pounds. Well the bite is getting better everyday so if your ready to book your trip call me (the best guide on Clear Lake) and lets go get em.

Senkos, LVs, and Minnows

I fished yesterday afternoon and it was still pretty slow. I did manage to get 5 really good fish later in the day. Talked to several fisherman and everyone was having a tough time, even the minnow fisherman. I did see a few fish caught on minnows with a split shot rig. The fish I caught were on a Senko, two 5 pounders and a Lucky Craft LV 500 which caught another 5 plus a 6.5 and a 8.5 pound bass. The bad thing is both methods are painfully slow techniques. But if you are willing to slow way down with lures or drag a minnow around and you’re looking for a guide that can put you on the fish call me and lets set up a trip on Beautiful Clear Lake.

Cold North Wind

Fished the Anglers Choice Bass tournament on Clear Lake yesterday. Woke up to find wind coming out of the north but not too hard. By 9:00 it was howling and the 2 fish we had in the live well would be it for the day. One was a 7.5 pounder caught on a Lucky Craft LV 500 and the other was a 4 caught on the Alabama Rig. However that was good enough for 3rd place. The bite was tough for everybody. The team that won only had 5 bites all day. Thank you north wind! A couple more days and the weather will settle and the fish will start eating again. When it does, hang on. Just last week a local fisherman caught a 13 pounder. I think it’s your turn! Call me and let’s make it possible.

Early Season Bassin

Well the Ranger boat is back home and was in the water twice last week. First I went out by myself just to have some fun fishing. It took a while to find some fish but finally found a pattern that resulted in several bass in the 4 to 6 pound range. No big bass but still some good ones. The hot lure of the day was a Lucky Craft LV 500.
