Berryessa Bass Trail Tournament

Saturday was the BBT tournament at Clear Lake and there were 4 teams that caught over 30 pounds for 5 fish. I had a guide trip that day and wanted to fish down south but with a 130 team tournament going out of Redbud Park I choose to go north. We had a pretty good day catching around 30 Bass and a few crappie. Then yesterday I fished the Berryessa Bass Trail tournament with less boat and stayed down south with much better results. I caught the tournament big Bass which was 9.33 pounds and we had 27.5 pounds for 5. Our Fish were caught on crank baits, lipless cranks, chatter baits, and worms. The off limits for the up coming New Jen tournament have been lifted so that opens up several days in my calendar over the next couple weeks if anyone wants to fish while the fishing is hot! Hit me up!

Lake Shasta vs Clear Lake

After a week at Lake Shasta fishing the NewJen Pro/Am it’s great to be home at the Bass Factory! Lake Shasta was fun, catching 100 plus bass a day but nothing over 2 pounds. Yesterday I was out on Clear Lake and it was great. We caught around 60 fish with the best 5 hitting close to 35 pounds. We could break the 8 pound mark but there were 3 over 7. Several more that cracked 6 pounds. Several of the Bass were caught on swim bait while most of came on crank bait and lipless crank baits. At one point the wind died down completely and we had to catch them with worms on a shakey head Frenzy Nail. The fishing on Clear Lake is getting better each week so if your ready for some fun hit me up at 707-543-6677!

High North Wind Slow Clear Lake Bite

We have had supper high winds at Clear Lake this week and the bass here don’t like cold north wind! Even with the wind Clear Lake is still better than most. I had clients catch fish up to 9 pounds and I caught a 9.5 pounder. They are still eating rip and jerk baits, Lucky Craft LV500 and other lipless crank baits, Little Creepers Trash Fish and other swim baits including glide baits. Lake Berryessa is also kicking out some giant bass like the 14 pounder caught by a team in the American Bass Ass. tournament Saturday. Back at Clear Lake the water temp is climbing to 65 in the day so the bite will change from prespawn to spawning bass really soon. So if you like looking at bed fish get ready it almost here!

Hawg Heaven

The last couple weeks have been incredible for me! The fishing at Clear Lake has been phenomenal for me and my clients. We have had multiple days with 30 plus pounds of bass and one day with 41.6 pounds. Each day saw more than 20 fish being caught. Not only bass but the crappie are chewing as well. We haven’t seen the huge 3 to 5 pound crappie that Clear Lake is know for but 50 to 100 per day is not uncommon with fish to 2 pounds. As for Lake Berryessa the bass are eat there as well. 18 to 25 pound limits are the norm and I have had several bass over 5 pounds there. Back to Clear Lake, ABA held its 4th tournament of the season here yesterday and my partner and I won with 36.42 pounds backed up with a 10.52 kicker that was caught on a swimbait and the rest were caught on rip baits and lipless crank baits. It looks like the weather is going to change next week so the fishing may change a little but we need the water in both Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa so…bring on the rain!

Windy Wednesday Night

Wednesday evening was one of the windiest night I have ever seen on Clearlake. The fishing during the day was pretty good as my clients caught around 12 bass up to 5.5 pounds. Still not much of a top water bite even early in the morning but the crank bait bite is still good. They caught fish on lipless crank baits (Luckycraft LV500), deep crank baits and jigs. Most of the fish came from 8 to 15 feet. My wife fished the Wednesdat Nite Shootout with me and she caught a small 2.5 pound bass while I caught a 4.5 pounder that was good enough for second place. Mr. Kevin Hall caught the biggest bass of the night that weighed 4.9 pounds…that’s quiet a bit off of our normal wieght for the WNS. Fall is closing in and the fishing is still awesome now so it’s time to plan that fishing trip when the weather is comfortable and the fishing is at its best!!!

The Jig Bite is on at Clear Lake

Had a great day on Clear Lake yesterday with Joao (John). We threw top water baits early but had no luck to speak of. After a couple hours we changed to lipless crank baits (Lucky Craft LV500) and started catching fish right away. We also caught fish on jigs and crank baits. We fished all day and never went more than 30 minutes without a fish. We ended up with 40+ fish with the biggest at just over 6 pounds but a lot of 4 to 5 pounders. Even though we didn’t get any giant bass, I have been catching a lot of bass from 6 to 8.5 pounds lately…And there was a 9.21 caught at our Wednesday Night Shootout this week on a deep crank bait. Summer is coming to an end soon so if you want some of this great action give me a call…

Clear Lake = Quality and Quantity

Clear Lake is kicking out both quality and quantity right now. Thirty fish days are the norm and bass from 5 to 8 pounds are regular. Yesterday I had 3 guys that had never bass fished before and each of them caught 6 or more fish up to 6.5 pounds. They caught fish on crank baits mostly as they are pretty easy to use for beginners. I have also been catching bass on jigs, brush hogs, chatter baits, and Lucky Craft LV 500 lipless crank baits. The night bite is good also and that a good way to beat the heat of Northern California. If you like fishing jigs or crank baits or if you want to learn to use LV 500 and chatter baits give me a call and let’s book your late summer trip!

Clear Lake Chamber Bass Tournament

Congrats to Mike Krnaich (BMX) and Brian Bailey on their win with 60.76 pounds of bass for 2 days. It was another slug feast with the top 11 teams all having over 50 pounds each for the 2 days. As you can see the fishing here is still great. Big swim baits and crank baits and lipless crank baits (Lucky Craft LV 500) seem to be the ticket at this time. If you want to get in on some of this awesome Spring time bass fishing at Clear Lake call me, Carl at Clear Lake Bass Guide to plan your trip of a life time. Of course as soon as Spring is over there’s top water season….
