Lake Shasta vs Clear Lake

After a week at Lake Shasta fishing the NewJen Pro/Am it’s great to be home at the Bass Factory! Lake Shasta was fun, catching 100 plus bass a day but nothing over 2 pounds. Yesterday I was out on Clear Lake and it was great. We caught around 60 fish with the best 5 hitting close to 35 pounds. We could break the 8 pound mark but there were 3 over 7. Several more that cracked 6 pounds. Several of the Bass were caught on swim bait while most of came on crank bait and lipless crank baits. At one point the wind died down completely and we had to catch them with worms on a shakey head Frenzy Nail. The fishing on Clear Lake is getting better each week so if your ready for some fun hit me up at 707-543-6677!

Windy day at Clear Lake

The supper clear water at Clear Lake will probably get a little stained with the extremely high winds in Lake County today. The winds are supposed to die down tonight so I’ll be back out tomorrow to catch some more of the Bass Factory fatties. I was out yesterday morning and caught several bass on Lucky Craft LV500 and a few on the A-Rig as well as the River2Sea DD crank bait. The water level is still extremely low and there isn’t much call for rain in the forecast. Hopefully this will change soon so we can add a few feet of water to the lake. Regardless the fishing continues to be great so call me and let’s get you on the calendar! 707-543-6677

Rain at the Bass Factory

Saturday was the New Jenn tournament at Clear Lake and the results were pretty amazing. My partner and I had 21.85 pounds with a 6.58 pound kicker and ended up in 13th place out of 78 teams. The winners had almost 33 pounds and the big fish of the tournament was just over 11 pounds. That’s on a cold day in January! Where else can this happen? Now we have rain coming down and more in the forecast for the next few days. The lake level is really low right now so this is much needed. After the weather settles the Bass should get even more active as it’s time for them to start staging for Spring. So if you’re ready for some of the years best fishing give me a call and let’s set up your trip of a life time on the best big bass producing lake in the country! 707-543-6677.

Clear Lake is Up and Down

We had our annual New Years Day Tournament on Friday and it was a tough bite for us of the field. There was a great turn out this year as we had 35 teams competing. My partner and I could only get 4 fish to bite and their weigh was 16.06. We ended up in 6 place with only 4 fish. Another 4 pounder and we would have placed 3rd. But that’s fishing! Our fish were all caught on the A-Rig. The winning team had 24 pounds and caught their bass on a Lucky Craft LV500. Other teams reported catching their fish on jigs, crank baits, and drop shots. Jeff and I went back out yesterday and the bite was completely different. We fished the same areas and caught around 15 fish up to 7 pounds. What a difference a day makes! Anyway we are expecting rain for the next couple days so that should help the bite. The minnow bite is still going strong so if your looking to hit the lake anytime soon be prepared to be flexible. If you’re looking for a guide give me a call and we’ll set up a trip for you.

Last Trip of the Year

Yesterday I took my last fishing trip of this horrible year. I’m glad it’s over and looking forward to great things in 2021. I plan to fish much more with less distractions. Well the last trip of the day was pretty good. I caught several really good bass but no giants. The best one was around 7 pounds and fell to a Lucky Craft LV500. Also caught a few good ones on the A-Rig and under spin. After fishing for bass I found a school of crappie and caught a dozen up to 2.5 pounds. While the fishing is still not wide open on Clear Lake it is better than 90% of the lake in the world and will only get better over the next couple months. If your ready for some of the best fishing of the year call soon and book your trip before my calendar fills.

Reaction Bite at Clear Lake

I was out Tuesday and chose to try reaction baits most of the day. The bite was much slower with lures than with the live minnows a couple days earlier. I caught about a dozen bass on the lipless crank baits, A-Rigs, and swim baits. Also caught a couple on jigs. The Lucky Craft LV500 seemed to be my best bet that day. The forecast is calling for some rain this week which is badly need as Clear Lake is very low right now. Hopefully the rain will help the bite as well. We are having our annual New Years Day tournament again next week so if any of you are interested in fishing a fun tourney this is a great way to start the new year. Also it’s time to start planning for the up coming spring fishing season and getting you trip on the books so call as soon as possible to choose the dates that work for you before the calendar fills.

Clear Lake is heating up

Well it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything as I’ve been busy rebuilding my house after a fire last March. I’ve been fishing as much as possible while rebuilding but now it’s done. I’m back in my house and on the water again. And the fishing is starting to heat up. I was out yesterday and caught somewhere around a dozen bass in the 3 to 6 pound range. No giant yet but they are coming. All solid fish. I have a trip tomorrow with clients that want to use minnows. Haven’t used them in a while but I hear the minnow bite is really good. If your ready for some end of the year bassin or looking to start the new year off right give me a call and let’s set up a trip soon! Merry Christmas!!

Rain, Rain Go…

Well I would like to say we have had enough rain but that’s not the case! We need a lot more rain to get Clear Lake back up to were it needs to be. The fishing is still good even though the lake is low but more water would be great. The bass are starting to look at the bank and that means big fish in our short futures! There is a big tournament here this weekend but I will be at Lake Berryessa on Sunday taking out a couple teenagers for the high school tourney there. It should be a lot of fun as Berryessa is turning on really good right now. Next week I’ll be busy on Clear Lake with a couple trips so I should have a better report soon. My calendar, as well as most of the guides here is starting to fill fast as this is the busiest time of the year…also the best time to catch a real trophy bass so call soon to book your trip of a lifetime….

Cold Front Blues

This time of the year fishing can go from 0 to 100 over night…or vise versa! This week for example I caught 2 fish on Monday. Then on Tuesday with a client we caught 30 plus bass up to 5.5 pounds followed by a 1 fish day on Wednesday. All three days we fished the same areas of the lake. This was on Clear Lake where we have shallow water with largemouth bass. Lake Berryessa on the other hand has much deeper water with largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass and the fish aren’t as affected by the cold weather. Both lakes are on the verge of pre spawn so the fish are in the areas that lead to spawning areas. With all that being said this is the time of the year to catch a true giant so if your will to take a chance with the weather give me a call and let’s get you a trophy bass!

Crazy Weather…Confused Bass

Last weekend I was at Lake Shasta for the Wild West Bass Trail WWBT tournament. We came up .23 of a pound short of a check. Our weight was 12.77 and 13.0 was the last check at 39th place in a 195 team tournament. Lake Shasta is a beautiful lake with some awesome fishing. After the tourney my partner and I decided to stay another day and we sacked the spotted bass yesterday. We had 17+ pounds which is what it took to win the day before. Our best fish was a 4.9 pound spot. I guess that’s fishing! Now back at Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa for some big fish. Hopefully the crazy weather hasn’t shut down the bite here!
