Berryessa Bass Trail Tournament

Saturday was the BBT tournament at Clear Lake and there were 4 teams that caught over 30 pounds for 5 fish. I had a guide trip that day and wanted to fish down south but with a 130 team tournament going out of Redbud Park I choose to go north. We had a pretty good day catching around 30 Bass and a few crappie. Then yesterday I fished the Berryessa Bass Trail tournament with less boat and stayed down south with much better results. I caught the tournament big Bass which was 9.33 pounds and we had 27.5 pounds for 5. Our Fish were caught on crank baits, lipless cranks, chatter baits, and worms. The off limits for the up coming New Jen tournament have been lifted so that opens up several days in my calendar over the next couple weeks if anyone wants to fish while the fishing is hot! Hit me up!

Last Trip of the Year

Yesterday I took my last fishing trip of this horrible year. I’m glad it’s over and looking forward to great things in 2021. I plan to fish much more with less distractions. Well the last trip of the day was pretty good. I caught several really good bass but no giants. The best one was around 7 pounds and fell to a Lucky Craft LV500. Also caught a few good ones on the A-Rig and under spin. After fishing for bass I found a school of crappie and caught a dozen up to 2.5 pounds. While the fishing is still not wide open on Clear Lake it is better than 90% of the lake in the world and will only get better over the next couple months. If your ready for some of the best fishing of the year call soon and book your trip before my calendar fills.

The Bite is on at Clear Lake

That’s right Clear Lake is kicking out lots of bass with some big ones in the mix. The crappie bite is still good here also. It took 29 pounds to win the fund raiser tournament last weekend and 17 pounds to get a check in a 50 boat field. Fish were caught on everything from drops shotting to A-rigs to big swim baits. Lake Berryessa is turning on also. Yesterday in the Berryessa Bass Trail it took 24 pounds to win and there was a 9 pound pig caught. If you interested in some great early spring fishing give me a call.

Clear Lake vs Lake Shasta

Well Lake Shasta is officially off limits to all competitors in the WWBT pro/am next weekend. Looking forward to fishing that tournament again this year. As far as Clear Lake there are some good bass and crappie being caught. The water is starting to stabilize and clear so the fishing is only going to get better. Wether you are looking to catch a huge limit of crappie or the bass of a lifetime now is the time to head to Clear Lake. As far as Lake Bwrryessa goes it is filling fast and the fish are eating. Call me and let’s do it!!!

Clear Lake is Filling Up

Clear Lake is currently at 6.35 which is about one foot from the full mark. The bad thing is they are starting to open the dam and let water out in order to prevent flooding. I think it is a little too soon as the lake has only come up about 5 feet all year and flood stage is at 9.5 feet. We are a long way from that mark at this point! Hopefully they won’t dump too much water. As far as the fishing goes, before the rains started the fishing had been really awesome but the water was getting supper clear which makes the fishing tough. The rains not only bring the lake level up but also stain the water so as soon as the rains slow down the fishing should be nothing short of great. Not only is the bass fishing good, so is the crappie fishing. The best way to catch these tasty fish is with small jigs or minnows. For the bass it’s time to start throwing swim baits over the grass flats. They can be caught with anything from Little Creepers Trash Fish to 12 inch Osprey swim baits and River2Sea S-Waver to 14 inch glide baits. While Clear Lake is nearly full and should be above the full mark by the time this rain is over, Lake Berryessa is still severely low. Only a few of the lake’s boat ramps are currently open dew to the low water level there. The fishing there is still good though with a few small mouth and large mouth moving up on their beds just before the rain started. Well if this weather is making you stir crazy, give me a call and let me guide you to some of the years best fishing!

Hawg Heaven

The last couple weeks have been incredible for me! The fishing at Clear Lake has been phenomenal for me and my clients. We have had multiple days with 30 plus pounds of bass and one day with 41.6 pounds. Each day saw more than 20 fish being caught. Not only bass but the crappie are chewing as well. We haven’t seen the huge 3 to 5 pound crappie that Clear Lake is know for but 50 to 100 per day is not uncommon with fish to 2 pounds. As for Lake Berryessa the bass are eat there as well. 18 to 25 pound limits are the norm and I have had several bass over 5 pounds there. Back to Clear Lake, ABA held its 4th tournament of the season here yesterday and my partner and I won with 36.42 pounds backed up with a 10.52 kicker that was caught on a swimbait and the rest were caught on rip baits and lipless crank baits. It looks like the weather is going to change next week so the fishing may change a little but we need the water in both Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa so…bring on the rain!

Big Bass are Moving Shallow

The nice weather is warming the water and the bass are starting to move to the shore. Clear Lake is 2 feet higher than last year and there will be some good spawning areas this year that were dry last year. This week I had 2 guide trips and both were awesome. Both trips had fish caught up to 7 pounds plus a 16 pound catfish and. 2.8 pound crappie. We caught fish on Lucky Craft LV500, Jackel Squadminnow, Senkos, drop shot, swim baits and minnows. I got a chance to go out alone once and caught a 9.1, a 8 and a 6.5 pound bass. Two were caught on glide baits and one came on a Senko. Now is the time to call and schedule your trip while there are still a few days left this spring.
