The Bass Factory is Still in Production

Yesterday Chris and I fished for about 6 hours and the bite started out slow. The wind was blowing about 20 mph out of the west and it was cold. We fished the Rattlesnake arm for a while and caught a few good bass but had to work for them. By mid day we moved to mid lake and north. The wind started to lay and the bite picked up. By the end of the day we had probably 25 fish with the best 5 hitting close to 28 pounds if not more. The best bass was just under 7 pounds. Fun days with more to come. If you’re thinking about the trip of a life time on Clear Lake call me and let’s get you booked!

Reaction Bite at Clear Lake

I was out Tuesday and chose to try reaction baits most of the day. The bite was much slower with lures than with the live minnows a couple days earlier. I caught about a dozen bass on the lipless crank baits, A-Rigs, and swim baits. Also caught a couple on jigs. The Lucky Craft LV500 seemed to be my best bet that day. The forecast is calling for some rain this week which is badly need as Clear Lake is very low right now. Hopefully the rain will help the bite as well. We are having our annual New Years Day tournament again next week so if any of you are interested in fishing a fun tourney this is a great way to start the new year. Also it’s time to start planning for the up coming spring fishing season and getting you trip on the books so call as soon as possible to choose the dates that work for you before the calendar fills.

The minnow bite is good at Clear Lake

Today I had a trip with a couple using minnows and the bite was really good. We had 6 dozen minnows and used all of them. Caught somewhere around 40 fish up to 7 pounds. Must of the bass were in the 3 to 4 pound range. Going out again tomorrow and throwing reaction baits.

Home Sweet Clear Lake

It’s good to be back at Clear Lake catching big bass. I had a trip yesterday and the bite was great, despite not great weather! We had rain, snow, and high winds but caught lots of nice fish. The best one was a 8.2 pound bass, with a total of around 60 fish. Today I was at Lake Berryessa and it was good there too. Not quiet as big but really nice fish up to 4.5 pounds and we caught smallmouth, largemouth, and spotted bass. Lake Shatsta was awesome but it’s great to be home!

Crazy Weather…Confused Bass

Last weekend I was at Lake Shasta for the Wild West Bass Trail WWBT tournament. We came up .23 of a pound short of a check. Our weight was 12.77 and 13.0 was the last check at 39th place in a 195 team tournament. Lake Shasta is a beautiful lake with some awesome fishing. After the tourney my partner and I decided to stay another day and we sacked the spotted bass yesterday. We had 17+ pounds which is what it took to win the day before. Our best fish was a 4.9 pound spot. I guess that’s fishing! Now back at Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa for some big fish. Hopefully the crazy weather hasn’t shut down the bite here!

The Bite is on at Clear Lake

That’s right Clear Lake is kicking out lots of bass with some big ones in the mix. The crappie bite is still good here also. It took 29 pounds to win the fund raiser tournament last weekend and 17 pounds to get a check in a 50 boat field. Fish were caught on everything from drops shotting to A-rigs to big swim baits. Lake Berryessa is turning on also. Yesterday in the Berryessa Bass Trail it took 24 pounds to win and there was a 9 pound pig caught. If you interested in some great early spring fishing give me a call.

Bass Biting at Clear Lake

The Minn Kota Ultrex is mounted and it is awesome! I got to go out on Clear Lake a couple times over the last few days and while the bite isn’t great, it is much better than it has been. Each day we caught at least 15 bass with a big fish over 7 pounds each day. Lake Berryessa is also turning on. My partner and I caught around 25 bass in a tournament there weekend before last with the best 5 weighing almost 18 pounds. Februray can be a great month at both lakes so if you want some great prespawn fishing it’s time to book your trip!

High North Wind Slow Clear Lake Bite

We have had supper high winds at Clear Lake this week and the bass here don’t like cold north wind! Even with the wind Clear Lake is still better than most. I had clients catch fish up to 9 pounds and I caught a 9.5 pounder. They are still eating rip and jerk baits, Lucky Craft LV500 and other lipless crank baits, Little Creepers Trash Fish and other swim baits including glide baits. Lake Berryessa is also kicking out some giant bass like the 14 pounder caught by a team in the American Bass Ass. tournament Saturday. Back at Clear Lake the water temp is climbing to 65 in the day so the bite will change from prespawn to spawning bass really soon. So if you like looking at bed fish get ready it almost here!

Hawgs(big bass) are Brawling at Clear Lake

I haven’t been out in the last two days but a couple of friends have sent me pictures of their catch and it looks like I missed a couple great days on the water. I saw pictures of a 43 pound 5 bass sack and a 38 pounds sack. Mean while I just got a German short hair pointer so I have been on puppy duty! Tomorrow I’m taking Remington(my pup) to Lake Berryessa to get ready for the 4th Berryessa Bass Trail tournament which is Sunday 2/21. The bite on Clear Lake is still good with Lucky Craft LV500 lipless crank baits, Pointer 128 rip baits, and A-Rig. Also some fish are starting to eat jigs and swimbaits. Next week the weather is going to be awesome again so if you are itching to get on some of the best bass of the year give me a call and let’s do it!

Winter Time Blues

Well it’s the time of the year that the fishing gets really tough. You may go out and catch only one or two fish, but they will probably be big bass! The best lures right now on Clear Lake are jigs and swimbaits…and of course live minnows. They are eating minnows pretty good so if you the need to catch fish that’s the way to go. At Berryessa the bite is a little better because of the spotted bass population. They can be caught on jigs, worms and spoons in the narrows now. The rains are going to help the water level at both lake and the bite should get better when stable weather returns.
