High Winds, Rain, and Sleet…and Big Bass!

The weather on Wednesday could not have been worse. We had extreme high winds, rain and sleet but the bass didn’t seen to mind. My client, Ryan managed to catch about 12 bass up to 6 pounds. All of the fish were caught on the Alabama Rig. We also threw swim baits and chatter baits, and I caught one fish on the chatter bait. At the end of the day Ryan was please with the results as he caught his two best bass ever, a 5 pounder and a 6 pounder. Ryan had to leave early to head back to the air port and I guess I just hadn’t had enough punishment for the day. I went back out and fished until dark and caught another dozen or so bass, but nothing over 6 pounds. I did manage to catch a few with the Senko and an Osprey swim bait. But the A-Rig was still the first choice of the bass. If you’re ready for some of this call Clear Lake’s best bass guide (that’s me)!

LVs for me

Lots of fisherman are saying they are catching fish on Alabama Rigs. For me the Lucky Craft LV 500 is still the best bet hands down. Today I fished for about 6 hours and spent the day throwing the A-Rig and the LV about the same amount of time. I caught 2 fish on the rig and 12 on the LV. Also caught a couple on a Senko. The bass were in water from 6 to 12 feet or 20 to 30 feet. Nothing from 12 to 20. Most of the fish were from 4 to 5 pounds with 2 that were close to 6 pounds. Well the bite is getting better everyday so if your ready to book your trip call me (the best guide on Clear Lake) and lets go get em.

The A-Rig is back!

Today was kind of slow again but we did manage to catch about ten nice bass on the Lucky Craft LV 500 and the Alabama Rig. Our best 5 fish weighed about 31 pounds so it was a good day. Our best fish were caught on the A-Rig along with the best 5. The biggest fish was almost 8 pounds. As Phil would say, at the end of the day everybody was HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY! So if you’re ready to catch some of these Clear Lake pigs, call the best guide on the lake and let’s set a date. 707-543-6677.

Cold North Wind

Fished the Anglers Choice Bass tournament on Clear Lake yesterday. Woke up to find wind coming out of the north but not too hard. By 9:00 it was howling and the 2 fish we had in the live well would be it for the day. One was a 7.5 pounder caught on a Lucky Craft LV 500 and the other was a 4 caught on the Alabama Rig. However that was good enough for 3rd place. The bite was tough for everybody. The team that won only had 5 bites all day. Thank you north wind! A couple more days and the weather will settle and the fish will start eating again. When it does, hang on. Just last week a local fisherman caught a 13 pounder. I think it’s your turn! Call me and let’s make it possible.

Minnows, LVs, and Alabama Rigs

I took one of my favorite clients fishing yesterday with a couple of his employees. It was a beautiful day and every one caught fish and had a great time. They caught several bass from 2.5 to 7 pounds. Most of the fish were caught on minnows but a few were caught on a Lucky Craft LV 500 which is a lipless crank bait. Also a couple of fish were caught on an Alabama Rig. The fishing is definitely get better so if you are ready to catch some of beautiful Clear Lake’s giant bass, give me a call.

Alabama Rig and Minnows

If you can handle casting the heavy Alabama Rig you can still catch several good bass a day on Clear Lake. Also the jig and crank bait bite is starting to pick up. And of course the minnow bite is still great. Recent rains have brought the lake level up some, but we still could use a little more water. You can check the current lake level in the lake info tab on the site. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the lake level link.
