Bass Biting at Clear Lake

The Minn Kota Ultrex is mounted and it is awesome! I got to go out on Clear Lake a couple times over the last few days and while the bite isn’t great, it is much better than it has been. Each day we caught at least 15 bass with a big fish over 7 pounds each day. Lake Berryessa is also turning on. My partner and I caught around 25 bass in a tournament there weekend before last with the best 5 weighing almost 18 pounds. Februray can be a great month at both lakes so if you want some great prespawn fishing it’s time to book your trip!

Clear Lake vs Lake Shasta

Well Lake Shasta is officially off limits to all competitors in the WWBT pro/am next weekend. Looking forward to fishing that tournament again this year. As far as Clear Lake there are some good bass and crappie being caught. The water is starting to stabilize and clear so the fishing is only going to get better. Wether you are looking to catch a huge limit of crappie or the bass of a lifetime now is the time to head to Clear Lake. As far as Lake Bwrryessa goes it is filling fast and the fish are eating. Call me and let’s do it!!!

Clear Lake is on Fire

I had three guide trips and two days to fish was th friends this week on Clear Lake and each day was phenomenal! The best bass of the week was a 10.2 caught on a lipless crank bait today. My client and I caught at least 30 fish over 4 pounds today, and half of them were over 5 pounds. Our best 5 fish was better than 41.5 pounds. The better fish came on lipless crank baits, but we also caught fish on chatter baits, biffle bugs, swim baits, jigs and crank baits,

Changing Gears

Well after a 8th place finish in the Wild West Bass Trail at Lake Oroville and a 3rd place finish at Lake Berryessa in the Berryessa Bass Tounament Trail, it’s good to be back home on Clear Lake! Now it’s time to get ready for the American Bass tournament here this Sunday. We have gotten quite a bit of rain this season but both Clear Lake and Berryessa need a lot more water!

February, Rain, and Big Bass

Clear Lake water level is higher now than it ever got last year, and there is lots of rain on the way this week. The forecast is calling for 5 to 8 inches of rain which should add another couple feet of water to our unusually low lake. Februray and March are great months for big bass here and they are starting to show up. I have been out of the state for the last week so I haven’t been on the water but will be back tomorrow, rain or shine! Ihave have seen a couple photos of some big fish that were caught in the last few days and can’t wait to get out there and get some of them. The next couple weeks should be really good, especially aftrer the lake settles from the rains. If you are ready for some big bass action give me a call and let’s plan your trip before someone else gets your date!

Clear Lake Bassin Still Slow

The bass bite here is still slow but what fish are being caught are big ones. I was out a couple times last week and caught 3 bass one day and 4 the other day. The good thing is that they were big girls. My smallest fish was just over 5 pounds and the largest was just over 7. I could establish a real pattern and caught fish on swimbaits and crankbaits, however most were caught on jigs. The best time seems to be just before dark and after dark. Of course if quantity is what you want, minnows is still the way to go and big fish are eating them also.

Cold North Wind

Fished the Anglers Choice Bass tournament on Clear Lake yesterday. Woke up to find wind coming out of the north but not too hard. By 9:00 it was howling and the 2 fish we had in the live well would be it for the day. One was a 7.5 pounder caught on a Lucky Craft LV 500 and the other was a 4 caught on the Alabama Rig. However that was good enough for 3rd place. The bite was tough for everybody. The team that won only had 5 bites all day. Thank you north wind! A couple more days and the weather will settle and the fish will start eating again. When it does, hang on. Just last week a local fisherman caught a 13 pounder. I think it’s your turn! Call me and let’s make it possible.
